How File Versioning Works

This article will discuss how HubStor works with File Versioning for the following data types:
  • File
  • SharePoint
  • OneDrive
  • O365 Audit Log
HubStor is fully versioned aware in that if a new version of a document is detected, an additional version of that document will be stored.  By default, all versions are kept in HubStor forever unless either of the below settings is in place:

Deletion Policies - For information on Deletion Policies, see the following article: Overview of Data Deletion

Version Control Settings

Below are definitions for each of the Version Control Settings as pictured above:

Keep all versions for [14] days

This setting covers a range of x number of days prior to the time that the version pruning job runs. Versions that have a last modified time falling within this range are kept.

Then reduce to one daily version for the next [90] days

This setting covers a range of x number of days prior to the oldest date of the previous range.
For versions that have a last modified time falling within this range, only the most recent daily version is kept. Older versions with a last modified time falling within the same day are deleted.

Then reduce to one weekly version for the next [52] weeks

This setting covers a range of x number of weeks prior the oldest date of the previous range.
For versions that have a last modified time falling within this range, only the most recent weekly version is kept. Older versions with a last modified time falling within the same week are deleted.

Then reduce to one monthly version for the next [240] months

This setting covers a range of x number of months prior to the oldest date of the previous range.
For versions that have a last modified time falling within this range, only the most recent monthly version is kept. Older versions with a last modified time falling within the same month are deleted.

Important: If the last modified time of the version is older than oldest date in the above ranges, the version is deleted.

After the periods to retain all versions, and retain daily versions, and retain weekly versions, and retain monthly versions, the item version is deleted.

Where to Find File Versions

The different versions of a file can be found by viewing the item properties in the Content Application.  From this section, specific file versions can be downloaded at any time.
